CONNECT WITH US:

The Coaches Site (TCS) and HockeyNow (HN) are partnering to present the Hockey Coaches Conference. The annual conference brings delegates together with influential coaches from North America and Europe, who share their expertise through a series of seminars and interactive on-ice sessions.

As the presenting sponsor of the conference, HockeyNow will be involved in a variety of initiatives leading up to the show, including contests on that will promote the conference.

“HockeyNow is proud to get involved to help make this coaching conference one of the biggest in North America,” said HockeyNow publisher Larry Feist. “We are always looking to promote and find ways to grow the game of hockey and this conference aligns perfectly with those goals.”

As part of the new partnership with HN, one very special addition to to conference this year will be the attendance of HockeyNow’s Minor Hockey Player of the Year from B.C., who will be participating in on-ice sessions with the conference coaches. The Player of the Year (POY) program has been going strong in B.C. since 2000, when Colin Fraser won the inaugural award.

B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee and Vancouver Canucks alumnus Dave Babych chairs the selection teams for HockeyNow’s Player of the Year award programs.

“I know some of the kids that have won this award, before,” said Babych. “You can see the importance of being a well-rounded person. We are looking for a leader—someone with real confidence. It may not be an overly verbal leader or an overly physical leader; but someone that respects what his teammates are about and someone who has earned the respect of his teammates.”

In 2014, the award moved into Alberta and Ontario, two markets that The Coaches Site had its sights set on in the coming years. And thanks to HockeyNow’s relationship with with ISS Hockey, Dennis MacInnis, their Director of Scouting, helped with the selection process and player recruitment. Dennis MacInnis is an original founder of ISS, starting the company in 2002 with the mission of providing the best independent scouting information to the hockey world. As Director of Scouting, Dennis recruits and manages a large network of ISS scouts located throughout the world.  Also joining the selection teams from ISS Hockey are senior scouts Brent Parker, the Western Canada regional scout, Mike MacFarlane, Head Ontario Scout and Mike MacPherson, Ontario Canada Regional Scout, ISS Hockey.

With these plans in the works, the partnership between TCS and HN, and particularly their POY program, could go the distance.

"HockeyNow is the voice of grassroots hockey in B.C. and their support has been instrumental in the growth of our conference over the past four years," stated Aaron Wilbur, Managing Director of the Coaches Site. "Both of our organizations are committed to having a positive influence on the growth of the game at the amateur levels and this partnership will enable us to share insight from some of the top coaches in hockey with a larger audience."

"This year we are proud to also partner with BC Hockey in delivering High Performance 1 certification. Coaches can register for the course through BC Hockey's web site and will attend the conference as part of the programs curriculum. Hockey Canada has changed NCCP High Performance 1 requirements and made certification mandatory for Head Coaches associated with teams which participate in interprovincial and/or national competition. In British Columbia, all Head Coaches coaching Bantam Tier 1, Midget AAA and Junior “A” must be High Performance 1 certified.”
