This week’s prospects include Jarret Tyszka (Seattle Thunderbirds), Morgan Frost (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) & Louis-Filip Côté (Quebec Remparts).

Jarret Tyszka was a pleasant surprise for the Western Conference Champion Thunderbirds in 2015-16. His poise and confident play from the blue line landed him top six minutes on a very deep Seattle blue line. There is nothing flashy about his game as he quietly takes care of his own end and takes the body well, separating the puck from the man with ease. Has strong first pass out of his zone showing no panic. Hardly caught out of position and has an active stick in the defensive zone. He will clear his net and stay with his check and not give any free passes. Above average skater who needs to be more of an offensive threat to be in same conversation as Cal Foote. Not an overly physical defender but may have to play meaner if he wants to keep up with stronger U.S. division opponents.

DID YOU KNOW? Tyszka is a 2015 graduate of the Yale Hockey Academy in Abbotsford, British Columbia where he posted 3 goals and 10 points in 25 games and also 37 penalty minutes. Before being drafted by Seattle, Tyszka played 68 games with the Langley Eagles in the PCBHL and had 27 goals and 74 points with 117 penalty minutes.

Morgan Frost is the definition of a hard-working puck hungry forward who has an unselfish pass-first mentality. Has quick hands and can maneuver in real tight spots. Strong sense of vision on the ice and doesn’t turn his back on any play. Plays his position responsibly and doesn’t get caught up ice when he should be back checking. Shows patience with the puck and makes the smart play. Nothing flashy about his game but has proved to be effective as he plays a key role on the power play and in the face-off circle. Can throw a hit and shows he is a competitor by playing bigger than his listed height/weight. 

DID YOU KNOW? During the 2014-15 season with the Barrie Colts Minor Midget AAA, Frost played in 32 games and posted 30 goals and 25 assists averaging nearly a goal a game before being drafted by the Greyhounds.

Louis-Filip Côté displays dynamic offensive skills and is a very creative offensive player. Great skater who shows a good first step and has above average acceleration. Short strides with quick bursts allow him to gain step on defenders and can glide himself to where he needs to go. Is a buzzer in the offensive zone and has good hands around the net. One drawback is he is shy when it comes to puck battles. Needs to improve his play away from the puck and show more of a two-way game. Must work on engaging defensively and finish a play and don’t give up. Has a good wrist shot but needs more upper body strength to compete for a full 60 minutes. Lots of room to grow. 

DID YOU KNOW? Côté was traded at the QMJHL Trade deadline last season from powerhouse Rouyn-Noranda to his hometown Remparts. In return, the Huskies received a third-round pick at the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft and a first-round pick at the 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft, both picks which belonged originally to the Huskies from an earlier trade. Rouyn-Noranda went on to win the QMJHL title and made it to the Mastercard Memorial Cup championship before losing to London in OT.
