All female hockey players between the ages of five and 12 have the opportunity to celebrate hockey thanks to the help of BC Hockey and the Canucks Centre. The 2017 Canucks Female Jamboree will be taking place March 17-19 at 8 Rinks Arena in Burnaby, BC and registration is now open with a deadline set for March 3 for both players and coaches.

The weekend includes an opening ceremony, team building events and three games per team. Players are encouraged to register individually and will be placed on teams based on age, experience, and skill level.

Each participant will also receive a jersey and a gift from BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks. 

Registration for coaches is free however it is a requirement that coaches have a coach 2 coaching level, certification in Respect in Sport (RIS), and Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT). Coaches will also be required to have a valid Criminal Record Check.

"The Vancouver Canucks have been a great partner of hockey in BC over the past 30 years, as evidenced by the programming we operate jointly through the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey,” said BC Hockey Chief Executive Officer Barry Petrachenko.

The Canucks Female Jamboree is a grassroots development program for females already playing hockey and for those interested in starting to play hockey. The event emphasizes fun, sportsmanship and the celebration of female hockey.  In a non-competing atmosphere, it allows all participants to play with other girls from around British Columbia and the Yukon. 

The players will be placed on their respective teams at registration and are broken up into Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. 

The relationship between BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks is met through the Canucks Centre. The Centre aims to provide programs to support growth and development of not only players but also coaches and fans.

The Female Jamboree has been around for over 10 years and has been a favourite to many girls who enjoy the game. Registration is a highlight of the entire event as guest speakers are throughout and give presentations on leadership and other topics relating to young women in sports. Registration is also highlighted annually by an appearance from the Vancouver Canucks mascot, Fin. 

“The Canucks Female Jamboree is one of many events we hold each year to help grow grassroots hockey in communities around BC and the Yukon. We are looking forward to another great jamboree in March," Petrachenko added.
