She isn’t quite the oldest on the team, Meaghan Mikkelson has that honour, but Meghan Agosta has some of the most experience for Team Canada’s women’s national team.

Agosta (Ruthven, Ont.), with a resumé that includes three Olympic gold medals and two-time world champion, by default is a leader on the team. But, it comes with even more substance — such as leading goalscorer in the Vancouver 2010 Games, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League Angela James Bowl winner for consecutive seasons (2011-13) while breaking the league’s single season scoring record, a member of the Triple Gold Club (Clarkson Cup winner, gold at the Olympics and gold at the IIHF Women’s World Championship), tournament MVP and named best forward by media at the 2010 Games – and the list goes on. Oh, and having spent the last two and half years as a police officer with the Vancouver Police Department also comes in handy.

“With policing I have a lot of responsibility, and I bring that mentality (to camp),” Agosta told Hockey Canada. “I have a lot more experience and knowledge of the game, so I’m able to be one of those players who can take the younger players under my wing and make them feel comfortable and confident.”

The forward, who is also the all-time leading scorer in the history of the national women’s development team, has a background with Hockey Canada that spans 18 years but she takes nothing for granted — including going after her fourth Olympic medal in Pyeongchang.

“I think with the job I have, you never know what you’re going to face going in to work on a day-to-day basis, putting your life on the line and things like that, I don’t take anything for granted. Just coming to the rink and getting excited to put your skates on and wear that jersey… it never gets old, it really doesn’t.”
